How do I transfer my domain to Success Makers?
Domain names must initially be registered with an official registrar, and must be registered with a primary and secondary name server. In order for your site to be officially hosted by Success Makers, the domain name must have our name server information listed in its record.
If your domain name was originally registered with Network Solutions, we can start a transfer for you on their on-line modification form. When we do this, Network Solutions will send an authentication e-mail to the administrative and technical contact e-mail address that they have on record for that domain. One of those contacts must respond correctly to that e-mail for the transfer to go through.
If your domain name was registered with Register.com or Worldnic (a division of Network Solutions) you were given an account number and password at the time of registration. If you supply us with that information, we can do a transfer for you. If you do not wish to supply us with that information, let us know and we will provide you our name server information for you to make the transfer.
If your domain name was initially registered with any other registrar, you will need us to supply you with our name server information, and you will need to contact the registrar directly and request they transfer the DNS information on the domain to our name servers.
How long does a transfer take?
If everything is done correctly and in a timely manner, the transfer should be completed by the registrar quickly. Once a transfer is completed by the registrar, it can take up to 48 hours for the domain to propagate through the Internet and actually be pointing to us.
What if the contact e-mail is no longer valid and I cannot respond to an authentication e-mail?
If you originally registered your domain through Network Solutions, and your contact e-mail is no longer valid or cannot be responded to, you must create a page that needs to be faxed to Network Solutions for the transfer to go through. You will need to contact Success Makers for specific instructions on how to do this.
If it was registered with another registrar, you will need to contact that company directly (probably by phone) and prove your identity, and they will transfer the domain for you.
My transfer was completed, so why doesn’t my site show up yet?
Once a transfer is completed, it takes up to 48 hours to propagate around the Internet. If your site still does not show up after that, it is possible that your ISP that you connect to the Internet with is “caching” the old routing information, and they need to refresh their DNS. Some ISP’s only refresh their DNS once a week. A good way to test this is to log onto the Internet through another ISP and you should then see your site come up.
